“Brandywine” by Delaware-based art rock group Death by Indie
On Friday, June 26, Death by Indie released “Brandywine,” their first single since their 2024 album “7 Day Farmers Market.” An art rock band from Wilmington, DE, Death by Indie is composed of Isa (they/she), Declan (they/them), and Andrew (he/him), all of whom rotate instrumental and vocal roles, making them a well-rounded group of talent.
Following their twangy DIY sound, “Brandywine” is a soft and catchy track with a syncopated beginning and crescendo ending filled with powerful electric guitar, rhythmic percussion, and amplified vocals. Inspired by the Jasper Crane Rose Garden in Brandywine Park, this single is a sweet love ballad about choosing a special someone, something, or someplace over anything else offered by life.
“I’m leaving everything behind For my Brandywine Rose Garden Crossing state lines I’ll be on that plane No matter where it flies”
Something tranquil and serene like a rose garden can be a proponent of inner peace and love, making it a place you want to return to time and time again. The lyrics of “Brandywine” communicate this feeling, telling us how no matter where they go in life, Death by Indie will always find themselves back at the rose garden—making it an integral part of who they are and a representative of what they value most: peace, love, and belonging.

Check out “Brandywine” and the rest of the band’s discography (and merch) on their official Bandcamp. Their next show is tomorrow, June 27, at Pride Fest hosted by Queer Art Collective and Rainbow Records. The group will also be playing at our very own Ainsley’s birthday benefit for Food Not Bombs on August 8 at the Newark Bike Project.
