On February 21, Phoenix-based shoegaze trio Glixen released their second EP, entitled Quiet Pleasures. Produced by Sonny DiPerri (My Bloody Valentine, Portugal. The Man) and mastered by Dave Cooley (Paramore, Tame Impala), the EP comes as their second release of 2025. The band put out three of the tracks, “sick silent,” “lick the star,” and “all tied up,” prior to the launch of Quiet Pleasures, allowing a preview of the EP to their listeners.
Recorded at Pale Moon Ranch in Juniper Hills, CA, Quiet Pleasures explores change, desire, devotion, sensuality and lovingness," explains bandleader Aislinn Ritchie. “We used layers of fuzzed-out and gritty guitars to introduce a darker, more intense iteration of Glixen while still capturing the fluttery charm of shoegaze.”

4. sick silent

Formed in 2020 by frontwoman Aislinn Ritchie and joined later by guitarist Esteban Santana, bassist Sonia Garcia, and drummer Keire Johnson; Glixen has shared a steady stream of singles with now two EPs mixed in. Their unique gritty and clangy instrumental style paired with Ritchie’s soft and soothing vocals have certainly fared well in the growth of the band.

Shoegaze is not a genre I tune into day-to-day, so listening to this EP was a new and exciting encounter for me. After listening, I am simply enamored with their style both musically and aesthetically, and am considering attending their show near me in March. Glixen delivers an immersive sonic experience, wrapping your senses in a heavy blanket while softly singing laments and longings.
Since their inception, Glixen has drawn attention from the DIY music scene and outside scenes alike, gaining them opportunities for touring and playing festivals like Freakout Weekender and Coachella, both of which are coming up shortly. The group will embark on their first headlining tour on “Quiet Pleasures” release day which will see support from She’s Green and Suzy Clue. Glixen will also be performing with Jimmy Eat World in April, as well as playing Coachella. Their success is certainly well-deserved.

Quiet Pleasures is available on streaming services via AWAL and on vinyl via Wichita Recordings.
