This Friday March 7th, Baltimore based pop-punk outfit STMNTS (pronounced Statements) has a brand new single for your ears. If you are not familiar with the band they are a five piece who’s influences range from pop-punk, emo, and post-hardcore from the early 2000s to now. They previously released their single Save Face in 2024 and their debut EP Tendencies in 2023. If you are looking for a fresh take on the genre this is it. We had the opportunity to listen to the track early and share our thoughts before this banger of a song officially releases.
The track opens with just lead vocalist Liam King and a guitar to slowly pull us in and then it explodes with energy from the addition of the rest of the band. The energy of the track flows throughout alongside lyrics that explore themes of “loving and longing” and not wanting “to make the same mistakes.” The lyrics also lament about the subjects own personal flaws with lines like “I’m a bad idea with too much room to grow” and “I’m selfish, I’m nothing, I’m fucking disgusting.” It is very relatable lyrically but also wrapped up around a classic post-hardcore sound. As the track comes to close we are met with the ever timeless blegh which I think just fits in perfectly.
Sinking In is a great progression from their previous releases but still very much stays true to their sound and influences. I think that they did an amazing job on this track and I am glad I was fortunate enough to hear it live prior to its release. If you haven't listened to STMNTS yet this is definitely a great place to start. We are looking forward to hearing more from the band and cannot wait to see them grow!
You can stream Sinking In everywhere tomorrow, March 7th.
