If you’ve ever had a particularly rough ending to a relationship (and who hasn’t, right?) you might want to get a tissue or two for this one. Avery Lynch is coming at us with another heart-wrenching anthem for Sad Girl (non-gendered) Hours.

With previous releases like “the boys who don’t know what they want” and “Rain”, familiar listeners may already be prepared for the gut punch that comes along with her newest single “Think About It.”

According to an Instagram post Avery made back in February, this newest composition made its way into the world when her sister came to her with a broken heart and a desire for comfort. “my sister asked me to write a song about her 5 year relationship that ended badly. like really badly.” I’d say she’s done a beautiful (if absolutely devastating) job of capturing that.

Starting off with a gentle piano line, it might be easy to expect a song like this to turn into something of a lullaby. Given that Lynch’s voice is a soft, dulcet mezzo-soprano, on any other occasion you’d be correct. Songs like “Love of My Life” have certainly had fans’ hearts twisting, but usually in the opposite direction. Instead of sweet and fuzzy, “Think About It” gives us warmth, with a heavy dose of melancholy.

“And you moved on like nothing’s changedLike if you ignored us we’d go awayWere you hoping I’d miss how you caused all of thisWhen you left me to just thinkThink about it”

Imagine the feeling of a pastel pink blanket made of plush microfibre fleece. Something gentle, and soothing that smells like your favorite fabric softener. A nice little bubble to hide yourself in when those crushing waves of betrayal come crashing in.

This song is the opposite of your classic “sitting outside in the rain while I cry so no one can see my tears” feeling. “Think About It” lays with us in sun-warmed grass. It holds our hands as our tears soak the little fleece blanket, and it tells us that sometimes it’s okay to feel the hurt.

“Why did you make me need you; so much I’d lose me with you?”

It is always a treat when music is so stripped back in its components. With nothing but delicate vocal tones, a gently rocking piano, and the quiet strumming of a guitar, we’re left with no choice but to let the words really sink in.

The age-old phrase is “beauty is pain”, but in this case, I think that Avery has very clearly taught us that sometimes pain is beauty. We can take heartbreak, we can let ourselves process it, and we can make something beautiful with it on the other side.

Having toured with BLÜ EYES back in 2023, and then conducting her own “hometown mini tour” back in December of 2024, there’s certainly a hope to maybe see our girl on the road again sometime soon.
