On Wednesday, May 21, Neck Deep released their latest single entitled “You Should See Me Now.” The single is classic Neck Deep–that upbeat pop punk sound with heart-wrenchingly relatable lyrics about going through something tough and getting better over time.

The single comes as the band’s first release since their self-titled album came out last January. They just finished touring Australia and Asia, and are now about to start their run of shows in Europe at Slam Dunk 2025. They’re quite busy nowadays, but still managed to give their audience another absolute banger amidst their packed schedule.

Produced by Will Yip, the sound of “You Should See Me Now” is crisp and clear. The lyrics pair well with the fast-paced instrumentals–lead singer Ben Barlow communicates that he is doing better than the person who left them behind thought they would do, which is always an amazing feeling. The part of the track that hits hardest, personally, is the pre-chorus. Reminding you to never stop moving forward, these lines are especially inspiring.

“Good things come to those who persevere And it takes blood, sweat, distance and tears No fear, no excuses”

Neck Deep never fail to write songs that make you regret ever not believing in yourself. “You Should See Me Now” is reminiscent of older hits like “Smooth Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors” and “Gold Steps.” I definitely credit those songs as personal reasons to keep going, and “You Should See Me Now” feels like it’s going to join the ranks. Songs that follow this specific recipe always hit, especially to those who turn to music to help them in their battles with mental health. Being one of those people, I can’t thank Neck Deep enough for putting hard feelings into words that I can sing (or scream) along to in my car and at shows with others who feel the same way.

Neck Deep will be on tour in the United States again with their friends in The Story So Far this fall. Tickets for said tour are available on their website, and “You Should See Me Now” is available for streaming on all major services, including Apple Music and Spotify.
